The Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) has hired a medical adviser to assist in case processing and work in relation to court cases.

The reason for this is that UNE considers many cases involving health information that it can be demanding for UNE staff to understand and assess. This arrangement is initially a trial that will be evaluated in the course of 2017.

The adviser in question is Ole Steen. Dr Steen is an experienced doctor and psychiatrist with extensive experience of clinical work as well as management and appeal case processing. He has also worked with neurosurgery and organ donation. In addition, he has taken on assignments as an expert witness for the courts and served on public committees. Dr Steen has previously assisted UNE sporadically, but has now entered into an agreement to provide assistance on a more regular basis.
