UNE has temporarily stopped issuing residence permit grants for persons residing outside of Norway. The reason for this is that no visas for visitors to Norway are currently being granted by Norwegian missions abroad.

Due to the corona virus outbreak, we are currently not processing appeals on applications of residence permits for persons who are:

  • from countries outside of EU/EEA, and
  • who are not located in Norway, and
  • who most likely would be granted a residence permit

This could mean that persons who have appealed their case, and who would have received a yes, will have to wait a while longer in order to get an answer. We will update the expected waiting times for different case types when we know more.

This applies to case types where you are applying from abroad. For example, cases regarding work permits, au pair cases or student cases.

We do not know when we will be able to resume issuing residence permits for persons outside of Norway. You can find more information about changes in rules and regulations due to the coronavirus on the Norwegian government's webpages (external link). On UDI's webpages (eksternal link) you will find answers to frequently asked questions regarding entry to Norway, your application for residence, visa, family immigration and work.

If you are not sure whether this concerns you, you may contact UNE’s Information Service.
